The Battle of Zimbabwe clash which had been scheduled for Saturday at Barbourfields stadium could be moved to accommodate the teams’ Independence Cup match at Mt. Darwin high school, Mashonaland Central.
The traditional Independence match is set to be played on Sunday according to Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa.
According to reports received by bhorafrika.com the two clubs have indicated that they will not be able to play on Saturday and travel 590km to the Independence venue.
This has put all possibilities of their topflight clash in doubt as government is highly unlikely to consider replacing the country’s two giants with any lesser club.
Meanwhile, a Dynamos official told Zim Now that the club has been commandeered to be in Mt Darwin on the 16th, only a day after the scheduled match in Bulawayo..
“We received letters confirming that we should be in Mt Darwin on the 16th which will make it difficult for clubs to travel so, basically the Battle of Zimbabwe should be rescheduled,” a club official told Zim Now.
Premier Soccer League Kudzai Bare said the match was still on and changes would be communicated.
“As of now, the match is still on. Any changes will be communicated via our official platforms,” said Bare.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to be the guest of honour at the 43 years anniversary.
Before the crowd pulling clash at BF, DeMbare will have played Cranborne Bullets in Harare while Bosso faces Chicken Inn on Good Friday.
The teams are current pacesetters after three rounds of matches having won twice and drawn once each.
Dynamos sits top of the log on goal difference while Highlanders is third.
