WARRIORS right back Gilroy Chimwemwe is part of DRC champions TP Mazembe’s squad that is set to face off with Tunisian giants US Monastir in a week three CAF Confederations Cup group stage fixture, Wednesday.

30 year-old Chimwemwe moved to Mazembe from Zambian side Nkana at the start of this current term, joining Daniel Zokoto, Ali Sadiki, Mthulisi Maphosa and Christopher Semakweri’s elite club of players who featured for them.

He forms part of a 29 member squad that landed in Tunis on Sunday ahead of the must win Group D tie.

TP Mazembe, who are usually perennial contenders in the top-tier CAF Champions League are experiencing one of their worst outings on the continent and desperately trying to save face.

They seat an unfamiliar third having only managed one win, a 3-1 home win over Mali side Real Bamako before suffering two consecutive losses (3-1 versus Tanzania’s Young Africans and 2-0 in their first game against US Monastir in DRC).

According to sources TP Mazembe are taking this match so seriously they moved all of its CAF registered players out of noisy Lubumbashi to relax them.

It might be fourth time lucky for the former Harare City defender, Chimwemwe, who is yet to start or feature in any of their three matches.

The roving right back, however, remains one of TP Mazembe’s most prized additions to coach Andy Magloire Mfutila’s side.

The TP Mazembe squad that travelled to Tunis:

Suleman Shaibu, Narcisse Nlend and Baggio Siadi Ngusia, Gilroy Chimwemwe, Elie Madinda, Zao Matutala, Magloire Amedee Masasi, Johnson Atibu, Tandi Mwape, Kevin Mundeko Zatu, Augustine Oladapo, Christian Kouame, Boaz Ngalamulume, Glody Likonza, Adam Bossu Nzali, Zemanga Soze, Fily Traore, Michael Gopey, Etienne Mayombo, Ernest Luzolo, Philippe Kinzumbi, Joel Beya, Rainford Kalaba, Mercey Ngimbi Mvumbi and Jephte Kitambala.
