When it comes to scoring goals in the ongoing season, it is fair to say giants Highlanders FC are finding it difficult.

Despite their unbeaten run in 12 games, and that they are seated second on the log table, Bosso’s conversion rate remains a concern.

One can argue that it remains worrying and disappointing to their supporters who throng Barboufields Stadium with anticipation to see goals but to no avail.

After 12 matches, Bosso have scored nine goals, the lowest of teams in the top seven who have managed to reach the double digit mark (ten goals plus).

Without any doubt, Highlanders coach Baltermar Brito is worried about his forwards’ rustiness in front of goal.

Last season’s club’s top scorer Lynoth Chikuhwa is still to find the net after 12 games.

The pair of experienced strikers Stanley Ngala and Washington Navaya has each scored once.

Only youthful forward Calvin Chigonero who arrived at the start of the season on loan from Talen Vision has scored twice, becoming the leading top scorer.

With that said, Brito is desperately set to bolster his attack with either an outright striker or a sharp midfielder who will solve his team’s scoring problems.

According to multiple reports, that man could be Kudakwashe ‘Nkembe’ Mahachi.

The Brazilian born Portuguese gaffer is reportedly willing to rope in Mahachi in the transfer window in July hoping that he might end Highlanders’ goal drought.

Mahachi’s manager, Gibson Mahachi, confirmed the club’s interest: “For South African teams, there is nothing but I can confirm that Highlanders have made an inquiry,” he told FARPost.

“They want him to join the team during the June window. Like I have always said, we are not rushing because we want the best possible club for him.”

Nkembe is currently unattached and has missed action for a year now but apart from that, the speedy winger might be a gamble worth exploring.

However, his move to Bosso could be ‘controversial’, in fact, it might divide opinion within the club’s hierarchy and fans due to previous criminal allegations, as is the case with Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood who was tried for rape but was also cleared recently.

Mahachi has endured a lengthy period on the sidelines after being released by SuperSport United in June 2022.

This followed allegations of attempted murder and child abuse of his 4-year-old son, Diego, before he was acquitted of the charges in November 2022.
